Profile

Stuart has been coaching since 2004 and has carried out over 1,400 hours of coaching. He is a Master Practitioner Coach accredited by the European Mentoring & Coaching Council. He began his career working as a Community Artist in the charity sector and has worked in the NHS since 1989. He has worked in all sectors of the NHS. He has a doctorate in Organisational Psychology from Manchester Business School. He also writes extensively on coaching practise, organisational change, personal effectiveness and innovation. He is the author of “Values Count: believing in what we do”,  “Insight Coaching: from values to action” and his latest book is “The Inner Fire: a coaching alchemy”. Alongside his coaching practise and writing books, he is also Chief Explorer a creative space for inner and outer journeying.

Coaching Style

Stuart has been coaching since 2004. His style is eclectic, drawing on a wide range of techniques including NLP, psychodynamic and behavioural approaches. He takes a client-centred approach, beginning with the issues which the client brings and identifying the best approach to match their preferred style. He also uses creative, narrative-based approaches where appropriate.

Areas of specialism

Stuart has extensive experience of coaching leaders at all stages of their career, helping them to understand the importance of building strong teams. He has significant experience of change management, resilience and developing entrepreneurial and innovation skills. In addition, he provides coaching on creativity and productivity and specialises in career coaching, career transitions, performance development, strategic planning, influencing stakeholders and business development.

Client organisations and seniority

Stuart is used to working with clients at all levels. He has coached Chief Executives, Executive Directors, Medical Directors, Clinical Directors, Heads of Service and frontline staff. He has also coached clients within the charity sector, SMEs and university sector. It is less about the role that you are working in, and more about your focus on improvement and change to ensure that you become the best version of you that you can be.

 

Career Background

Stuart worked for 7 years for a regional charity, and has worked since 1989 in the public sector. He has held a number of senior roles in the NHS, including National Head of Evaluation for the NHS Modernisation Agency and Regional Director of R&D for NHS North West, as well as a number of non-executive roles at regional and national level. Stuart has expertise in evaluation of impact, public involvement and engagement, and service improvement / change management.

Stuart has previously held honorary appointments at Manchester Business School, University of Lancaster and Liverpool John Moores University. He is currently Honorary Visiting Professor, Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, University of Liverpool.
