AREAS OF EXPERTISE

  • Evaluation research – this was my specialist area when I worked for the NHS Modernisation Agency. Since then I have continued to work in this area acting as the External Evaluation Advisor to both Macmillan Cancer Support and NHS Institute for Innovation & Improvement. I have expertise in commissioning and designing evaluations, and have a wide knowledge of evaluation providers in the UK.
  • Organisational change – this draws specifically on my PhD work which developed a support toolkit. I am currently writing a book (Coming through Change) which is a guide to the toolkit. I have experience of running large scale change programmes.
  • Knowledge Management – I am familiar with a wide range of knowledge management tools, applications and soft technologies. I am also familiar with knowledge transfer processes.
  • Personal development, coaching and mentoring – I am an accredited mentor on the North West of England Mentor scheme and am currently mentoring / coaching six people from a diverse range of backgrounds and at different levels in their organisations from Manager to Chief Executive. I have completed more than 200 hours of coaching over the last 8 years.
  • Strategic Partnership building – my work as Regional Director of Research & Development for the NHS is delivered through the development of partnerships and alliances across sectors. I have developed three alliances, and a wide number of collaborations. During the last 4 years funding in the region has grown by 125%.
  • Public Involvement – I am the Chair of the Strategic Alliances Working Group of INVOLVE. I also set up the North West Regional Users Advisory Group and am currently leading a project to develop co-ordinated public involvement across the north west.
  • Service Improvement and Modernisation – in my two years at the Modernisation Agency I developed expertise in a wide range of improvement techniques, which I am able to use in projects.
