Brains and Masterminds

I have come across the idea of a small group to provide peer support in a number of places. Michael Bungay Stanier, for example, has a Mastermind Group of half a dozen people who he speaks to regularly. They meet up at least once a year for a weekend together. He sees this group as a safe space to test things out and to receive constructive challenge to his business development and new ideas.

A similar concept which many people have written about is the idea of a Brains Trust. This draws together leading thinkers in a field to contribute to the development of new ideas.

As I make major changes to the ways in which I work I am wondering whether it would be helpful to put together a Mastermind Group that I can be a part of. It could be a group that spoke regularly – perhaps via skype, phone or email – and met up every so often. Even though there are so many ways to communicate through the ether there is nothing like getting into the same space from time to time.

I already get support from an executive coach and a writing coach. But I wonder whether group input might be useful too. If you have experienced something similar to this please do feel free to get in touch and let me know what your experience has been.
