Is it a book or an article or something else?

I have spent today thinking some more about where I take the book manuscript which I have been trailing in this blog on coaching. It’s called “The Coaching 30” and comprises a set of tips and ideas for coaching. It is aimed at coaches and coaching clients. The ideas are taken from my own studies and practise in the field.

I have produced a very rough full first draft of the book. This needs further work to produce a full manuscript which I would then want to share with coaching clients, coaches I work with, and anyone who reads this blog and may be interested.

The thinking I have been developing today is looking at different ways to unpack the book. So, with 30 different topics all set out in the book itself, there are then at least 8 of them which merit being written up in greater detail as articles. This would mean that I had individual articles on:

  1. The Archetypal Casting Toolkit
  2. Celebrating Procrastination
  3. Introverts and Extraverts
  4. Renaissance as a Strategy
  5. Networking
  6. A Working Model for Change
  7. Coaching and the Laws of Physics
  8. From a place of passion within

And there are then some topics which can be produced as short coaching tips sheets. I have already produced 4 of these, and have ideas for 3 more:

  1. Bugs and Buzzes
  2. In their Shoes
  3. Networking
  4. Working Model for Change
  5. 100 questions exercise (from Michael Gelb’s ‘How to think like Leonardo da Vinci’)
  6. Developing a Bucket List
  7. Brand You and the 100 successes list

So, I can take the basic materials I have for the book and develop different approaches to each topic to suit the material. This should make for a really interesting project over the coming months. The challenge will be to make sure that I don’t get tangled up in the complexity of the work. Keep it simple, and keep producing material.
