Three Best Things

Most weeks on Twitter, when it gets to Friday afternoon or early evening I post a string of tweets with the hash-tag #3bestthings. It’s the three best things that have happened that week. This idea developed as I was looking at ways to appreciate what is happening in my life. It’s too easy to become caught up in the things that are going wrong around us, and not notice and give appreciation to the things that are propelling us forwards. Or the things that have a real impact upon us.

Over the last couple of weeks, three things have really impacted on my life. Here they are:

  1. Michael Bungay Stanier hosted an online virtual conference called The Great Work MBA. It was a remarkable event with 25 speakers spread over 5 days. I watched it wherever I was – in work, at home, on trains, over breakfast. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear an amazing set of speakers. The night before the first day, Michael talked to two learning experts and shared the best techniques to embed learning. This encouraged me to take notes as I watched, and to ensure that I was capturing key action points from each speaker. I’m working through those action notes now to take things forwards.
  2. Creative projects are taking a giant leap forwards. I have two new projects on the starting blocks. The first, The Flower Book, I wrote about here. It’s beginning to take shape, and research into the topics and approaches I will develop is well underway. The other project involves working on a short sequence of poems and making musical backdrops for them. I have rough cut versions of 3 pieces so far. I may share one of them to the blog in the next few weeks. I keep joking with friends that I am making my first album. And in a funny sort of way, that is what it is!
  3. Last weekend Venerable Amy Miller from Milarepa Meditation and Retreat Centre was in the UK. She gave a talk at the World Museum in Liverpool. We were lucky enough to act as hosts for her during her weekend stay. This gave us the incredible opportunity to meet a Tibetan Buddhist Nun and find out more about her life. It was an amazing experience. One that will resonate with me for some weeks and months to come. The visit was arranged by Jamyang Liverpool.

So, now you know what a Tibetan Buddhist Nun, a book of flowers and an MBA have in common!
